Healthy Holidays

What is WF Happy Healthy Holidays?

The WF Happy Healthy Holidays programme is aimed at providing healthy food and enriching activities for primary and secondary school aged children who are eligible for income based free school meals.

For the summer holidays eligible children can access a variety of activity and sport sessions at no cost to you. The session will also include a healthy meal.

These sessions will be delivered by a number of providers across the Wakefield district, such as schools, voluntary and community organisations, and childcare providers.

The sessions are fully funded by the Department for Education (DfE). Visit the government website for more information on the national programme.

Summer 2024

Yesterday, #HAF2024 Happy Healthy Holidays ventured into Leeds for a spectacular visit to Tropical World!! The children saw lots of creepy crawlies, walked amongst the butterflies and spotted some hidden reptiles. We also had lots of fun at Roundhay Park playing team building sports and exploring the natural wildlife. We all had a lovely day!!!

We channelled our inner designers to showcase some beautiful fabric wings. Then we enjoyed a relaxing stretch during a Yoga session with Karen from YogaWakefield.

In the afternoon we had a visit from some animal friends at Animal Ark Travelling Zoo. The children got to learn about and interact with creatures from snakes to birds.

Children have explored knife skills creating their own tropical fruit salad. They learnt about the lifecycle of a butterfly and spent the afternoon splatting and bubbling paint to create a wonderful swarm of fluttering wings!!

Week 1

Week 2

What a brilliant end to this summer’s Happy Healthy Holidays! #HAF2024

We enjoyed Olympic crafts and channelled our inner sports fans to make flags and medals!

Then we made cheesecake and yoghurt cups with Andy from Evergreen Active.

Thank you for a great two weeks, we wish you all a lovely summer and we will see you all soon!
